Inspiration

Life is an amazing journey...I am a true believer in the idea that the trip is sometimes more rewarding than arriving at the destination. If you view the world through the lens of accomplishment, it is often easy to forget the exquisite details of the voyage. I like to take a little time, every now and then, to reflect on the people, events and things that make life, the pearl that it is.

Last weekend, my oldest child...not really a child anymore, married the love of his life! Chris and his wife find an inexplicable joy in each…

Reflections of September 11th...

Twelve years have passed since that horrible day...though the sad events of that day will forever be etched upon my memory, the weather that day was beautiful...not a cloud in the sky.

I was working for a group of radio stations in Manchester. I had an appointment that morning to meet with a  new client in Nashua. I arrived at the restaurant that the client and I had agreed to meet at, and I waited for him to arrive. After waiting thirty minutes or so, it was apparent that the client had either forgotten, or blown off the…

The Road Less Traveled...

We live in a beautiful part of the state. Everywhere you look you can see something wonderful! Sometimes we do not appreciate that simple fact. My wife and I have a hobby that is designed to remind us of the wonders in our backyard. We go rambling...nothing fancy, we just get in the car and drive. We look for back roads and simply see what there is to see.

Our last ramble took us…

Holes in the floor of Heaven...

Driving to work this morning, I was listening to my favorite radio station. WSCY plays an excellent selection of country hits. I love driving in, on Saturday morning, with my sunroof open, and my radio playing loud. It is the time of the day when hope is alive and the day holds endless possibilities.

This morning they played a song that touched me...the song is about a little boy that loses his grandmother, and he is feeling sad, and the rain starts to fall from the sky. He begins to cry, his mother tells him that there are holes…

Thanks Dad!

What is it that makes a Dad...special? Is it looking out, and seeing him, when you are playing sports or standing on a stage? Could it be the lessons you learn from him as you grow up...both spoken and simply observed? Is it the tough love we all sometimes need, when we veer off the path? How about sage advice offered earnestly and with love? How about the approving look you get from…

A Hero...Why we celebrate Memorial Day!

Phil Charte was many things...a gifted athlete, a smart, and really funny guy, he was a  captain of the wrestling team at Goffstown High School, in fact he was a State Champion at 135 pounds. He went to Parris Island and became an outstanding Marine. My wife and I loved seeing him at the meets, and laughing and joking with him about everything and anything. Most importantly he was a good friend to my son and daughter.

Phil was a practical joker. At one particular wrestling meet, my wife fell asleep in the bleachers, and Phil talked some of…

Some thoughts on Mother's Day...

Tomorrow is my fifty-second Mother's Day. I have made cards, bought cards, picked flowers, purchased flowers, shopped on-line, and in stores, bought large and  small gifts, always received smiles and thanks! But.... it just doesn't feel like I've got it right.  It is a day that we all celebrate, but rarely contemplate what we are really celebrating. That is changing as I grow older...

I know that I am a very lucky guy...I have a wonderful woman who has been my wife of twenty-six years. She is also an incredible Mom! I celebrate her in a…

Do Great Deeds

Those of you who have known me for a time, have often heard me offer this parting admonition...go forth, do great deeds, slay dragons! This instruction is usually met with a smile, a wry chuckle or sometimes a puzzled look.

To some it may be taken as humor, or a corny way to say good bye, but I offer it sincerely, and with a purpose. I have been told many times that if you…

35 Years Ago...Today

1978...I graduated from Manchester Memorial High School. My best friend, Paul Nelson and I traveled to San Antonio Texas to audition for a rock band. We packed up travel trunks, guitars and equipment, hopped on a Trailways bus, and rode off...it was an adventure. Neither of us had traveled far away from home (well one time we drove to NYC to play our music in the subway...never found the subway, turned around and drove back home) but alas, we never made the audition, bad luck, and fate pushed us both into different directions. Paul served our country…
