Those of you who have known me for a time, have often heard me offer this parting admonition...go forth, do great deeds, slay dragons! This instruction is usually met with a smile, a wry chuckle or sometimes a puzzled look.
To some it may be taken as humor, or a corny way to say good bye, but I offer it sincerely, and with a purpose. I have been told many times that if you have to explain something to a reader, then the point has already been lost...but alas,to me, this is worth an explanation.
Go forth...two words that command us to move forward through our life. The world is sometimes a cold, unfriendly, and uncertain place. It takes courage to proceed, facing the chill, and those who do not wish us well, not knowing what we might find around the next bend in the road. Go forth, also implies hope and opportunity, and as we go forth, we do so with confidence in the divine and ourselves to do the right as we see, that it must be done!
Do great deeds...and adjuration to do good. To render simple kindness to those you might meet along the road. It does not preclude climbing mountains, and saving damsels in distress, but reminds us... that what we view as simple acts of kindness...to others may be a great deal larger then we may ever know!
Slay dragons...each of has dragons in our lives. Sometimes we call them obstacles, difficulties, or hard times. This is our lifetime task, to find a way through these barriers to our happiness, and success. Sometimes we slay them with wit, love, might, or a combination of these, to give our family and ourselves the best chance of achieving our goals
So if fate or destiny should draw us together, and after we have had our adventure, I leave you with these words...Go forth! Do great deeds. Slay dragons...you will know what I mean!
