Performance

The Ascent's engine is a turbocharged 260-horsepower 2.4-liter flat-four that delivers strong acceleration performance. The engine is tied to a continuously variable transmission for a smooth driving experience around Concord. The standard all-wheel drivetrain maximizes tire attachment to the driving surface. Considering the standard all-wheel drive, the Ascent provides better-than-average fuel economy, which peaks at 21 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the base and Premium trims due to their 18-inch alloy wheels.

The Limited and Touring trims ride on larger, 20-inch alloy wheels, thus reducing overall fuel efficiency by 1 mpg. Regardless of trim, the Ascent is equipped with technologies such as hill descent control, active torque vectoring, and trailer stability control to enhance stability, handling, and overall ride quality around Manchester.

Safety

Recently, Subaru made standard steering-responsive LED headlights for more accurate illumination and automatic high beams for low-visibility situations around Plymouth. Also standard are lane centering and lane keep assist in addition to adaptive cruise control. These technologies join Subaru's EyeSight suite of driver-assistance features, which also include pre-collision braking and sway warning.

However, if there is a crash, the Ascent has two frontal impact airbags, two side impact airbags, and two side curtain airbags for restraint and cushioning. More driving assistance awaits you on the Premium, which gains blind-spot detection and rear cross-traffic alert; reverse auto braking is added on the Limited. Only the Touring has a 180-degree camera, which replaces the standard rearview one.

Interior Features

With its three rows of cloth-trimmed seats, the Subaru Ascent can seat up to eight people. However, you have the choice of swapping the bench-style seat in the second row with a pair of captain's seats to reduce maximum occupancy to seven. The second- and third-row seats have a 60/40 split-folding design to enable the maximization of cargo space when needed.

At the Premium level, the Ascent is enhanced with stain-resistance quality on the cloth upholstery, front-seat heating, eight-way power adjustability on the driver's seat, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The Limited provides more luxury and comfort by replacing the cloth seats with leather ones and adding heating ability on the steering wheel and second-row seats. Only the Touring adds cooling ability on the front seats for warm summers in Laconia.

Comfort and Convenience

For infotainment, the Subaru Ascent relies on the Starlink multimedia system. This system combines a six-speaker AM/FM/CD stereo system, Bluetooth hands-free phone calling and audio streaming, HD Radio, four USB ports (two in the front and two in the second row) and an audio jack to hook up mobile devices, voice activation technology, a trial subscription to SiriusXM Radio and Travel Link, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration, and a 6.5-inch touchscreen. Also present are a tri-zone automatic climate control system, which consists of separate heating and cooling controls for all three rows.

The Premium trim replaces the 6.5-inch touchscreen with an eight-inch one and gains a 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot. The Limited gains proximity keyless entry with push-button engine start, auto-dimming ability and a garage-door opener on the rearview mirror, and two USB ports in the third row. Only the Touring has a navigation system and a 14-speaker 792-watt Harman Kardon Quantum surround-sound system.
