The news is full of stories that are sad...destructive weather, fires, tough economic news, and tragedy. Of late most of us want to click off the remote and put the bad news out of our minds. We are sometimes convinced by these stories that the world is an awful place, filled with uncaring  people and suffering victims.

On Saturday, at the NASWA, at Weir's Beach, a story was being written by hundreds of people from all over New England. Each person attending was there for a very noble purpose. The story did not make the evening news, nor was it a banner headline in any newspaper, but it should have been. In fact if it wasn't for North Eastern Radio, and Comcast it might have gone totally unnoticed.

Easter Seals, with its volunteers, was working to help raise money for the myriad of amazing programs it funds for people that many of you reading this post know. The event is the HK Powersports Poker Run. It is in its twelfth year, and has raised over seven hundred thousand dollars. The money funds programs for children, veterans, and just about anybody who really needs help.

Some of the families at the event described their experience with Easter Seals, their stories were inspiring and uplifting. The employees of Easter Seals were described as being guardian angels, seemingly appearing, just when they were needed most. These families were faced with daunting challenges, disabilities, and mountains to climb...yet there is not one sad story amongst them, because the people of Easter Seals were by them every step of the way!

If the stories of these families was not inspiring enough, this writer was moved by the extreme acts of generosity, I witnessed at the NASWA. The list of those who made a difference on Saturday is long and if I miss some, please forgive me.

As a witness, I could not help but be inspired by Cynthia Makris, owner of the NASWA, and her employees, the commi
tment of the Whalley family and HK Powersports,  Ron Cohen and his family, Ben Gamache, Brady Sullivan, and  the wonderful people at Baron's Major Brands, Bill Irwin and his family and employees at Irwin Marine, Jeff Levitan, Fred Caruso and Amy Bates from MIX 94.1, Jane Love, Kurt Muhlfelder, Christine Pederson, Wanda Horton, the Johnstone family and Belknap Subaru, SeaDoo, Metrocast,  Bank of New Hampshire, Zero Waste & Recycling Services, Inc., SYSCO of Northern New England, Inc., Kids Only, Harley Davidson Motorcycles of Nashua and Manchester, Tanger Outlets of Tilton,  South End Media, Plastic Distributors and Fabricators, Inc., Stonyfield Yogurt, , Coors Light, Weirs Beach Lobster Pound, Suzuki, Pepsi, Lakes Region Casino, Lowe's, CVS, Samuel Adams, Corona, LTD Company, BRP, and Pederson Flooring & Refinishing, motorcycle clubs, car clubs, businesses big and small, all coming together to raise over seventy three thousand dollars in this one event.

This is a story that illustrates everything which is good and inspiring...the world has sad stories, but this is not one of them, any tears shed on Saturday were tears of joy, and the more you look around, the more you realize the world is as good story as we make it!
