2026 New Hampshire Vehicle Inspection Changes
What Drivers Need to Know
Important Updates for New Hampshire Drivers
Beginning in 2026, New Hampshire is making significant changes to its vehicle inspection laws, including the removal of the annual safety inspection requirement for most passenger vehicles. While this marks a shift in state policy, your safety remains our top priority.
At Subaru, we believe in proactive care, trusted service, and keeping you informed every step of the way. Every service at your Subaru Retailer will continue to include a Multi-Point Inspection, so even as inspection laws change, you can count on us to help keep your vehicle safe, reliable, and ready for the road ahead.
What’s Changing in 2026?
Beginning January 31, 2026, New Hampshire will end the requirement for annual safety inspections on most passenger vehicles. Emissions testing may also be removed later in the year, pending final decisions from state regulators. Our retailer's commitment to safety, transparency, and guest care will continue without interruption.
Do I Still Need to Have My Car Inspected?
Beginning in 2026, annual inspections will no longer be required by state law, but keeping your vehicle safe, efficient, and road-ready is just as important as ever.
What's Included in a Subaru Multi-Point Inspection?
In addition to your Subaru Multi Point Inspection, your trusted advisor will also check on the status of any important open safety recalls on your vehicle. If any recalls are available to be completed, your advisor will set up an appointment to have the recall completed entirely free of charge.
We inspect:
- Exterior lights (headlights, brake lights, signals) / Horn
- Wiper blades and washer system
- Engine oil, coolant, brake fluid, washer fluid, transmission fluid

- Axles/Driveshafts/CV joints
At the end of the inspection, you will receive a report that utilizes a Green, Yellow, and Red coding system.
- Green means your Subaru is in great shape for that item.
- Yellow means that item is still safe but it's time to plan for replacement in the future.
- Red means that item requires immediate attention.
