The Technological Storm; by Colin Mckenna
Our use of technology has become an everyday, every hour and every minute task. Technology has opened the doors to so many possibilities for average people to access information, and to connect with the world, on a global scale.
The latest trend driving the latest innovation of technology is cloud computing, a virtual network of computers all connected through the internet, which serves as a tool for storing, and buying, information. Informational Technology, Telecommunication, and Search Engine Optimization Organizations are at the front end of this revolution.
Google is in the process of developing their "Google Glass", a wearable computer that displays information in the format of a smart phone. The Banking Industry is soon to go through a smart card revolution which will replace traditional debit/credit cards. Smart cards can provide identification, date storage and stronger security to its users. They can be swiped at certain ATM's to deposit and withdraw money but their ties to mobile phones make them capable of so much more. These innovations are improving the standard of living for many people, and have helped business increase efficiency. With the access to advanced tech gadgets, moving rapidly through society we must be careful of the negative social and physical impacts technologically can bring.
This summer I was with my best friend Danny, we were both on our IPhones when it occurred to me. Danny goes to the United States Naval Academy and I go to Plymouth State University. We are on opposite schedules and only get to see each other for two months out of the entire year. But there we were, using our IPhones, looking at Facebook, not talking. I told him how I felt, and he felt the same way, wasting precious time, that we couldn't buy back with any technology.
People need to be conscious of the distractions that come with technology. Texting, and driving, have becoming a dangerous, and disturbing, use of cell phones. States across the country have recently passed laws meant to stem the tide of this ill-advised practice. A lot of the distractions and negative impacts from the use of technology can be avoided, if people are just aware of the appropriate times, and places, to use them.
What say you?
