Fast cars, fast women, and danger are the hallmarks of the legendary secret agent 007. Ian Fleming created a character that men aspired to be like, women wanted to be with, and we all enjoyed spying on with voyeuristic glee.

I fell in love with the books which I devoured as a young man, my grandmother took me to a nickel bookstore and I soon acquired them all in paperback.

My first was Dr. No... I admit Honey Rider looked better in the movie...Ursula stepping out of the surf in that bikini...but I digress. The bad guy had mechanical pincers for hands...and his dragon sub ate anyone crazy enough to go anywhere near his island. This guy knew cool!

My office today has a collection of Bond memorabilia. The theatrical poster for Dr. No...clips from the movie Diamonds are forever, and a matted grouping of all the men who have played Bond in the movies. I even have a model Aston Martin on my
desk.

Ian Fleming always created really interesting bad guys. I loved every word and read the book several times until I could find others. He also created a good guy that wasn't really a good guy...in the books, Bond did things, for King and Country, that
weren't always cricket...he was a cold, calculating, and sometimes a ruthless killing machine. While performing his duty he never lost his sense of purpose or hesitated. I liked him, because every now and then he stopped to reflect on what he did...and we saw a glimpse of his humanity. He is a fabulous character!

This post is for all of you who have enjoyed James Bond and all of you who look forward to his next exploit...it is late and I am going home to have a vodka martini...yes, shaken...not stirred!
