The office of President is one that comes with great honor, but also, great stress and strain. Those who pursue the office are noticeably affected by the enormous work load that comes to those who win the election. Before and after pictures of these men is visible proof of what happens to them upon attainment of their lofty goal.

President's day is a time when we celebrate the birthdays of both Lincoln and Washington. Both men are recognized as among the best to hold the prestigious office. They are also both good examples of how the great weight of responsibility can age a person.

Washington led a difficult life, he spent many of his elder years living in the field with his men. Hunger, unsanitary living conditions, and life on the battle field are all thought to have made his later years miserable with health difficulties. Washington himself is quoted as saying "Gentleman, please allow me to put on my spectacles, as I have grown old in the service of my country.

Lincoln was a man of vigor and wit as he entered the White house, but after 3 long years of war, and the political minefields within his own administration, and the death of of his son Todd, he aged dramatically.  He is quoted as saying "every man over forty is responsible for his face.

It is that time of year when we recognize the presidents, not only for their great deeds but also for their sacrifice and their humanity.

Happy President's Day!
