KENNETH R. OLSON
Kenneth R. Olson, 85, of Penacook, passed peacefully on November 12, 2014 at Merrimack County Nursing Home, following a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Ken was born March 13, 1929 in St Paul, Minnesota to Elmer and Clara (Olson) Olson. He was the middle child and is predeceased by his older sister Eleanor Prescott and his younger brother, Robert. The family relocated to Laconia NH. Ken graduated from Laconia High School, Class of 1948 and enjoyed meeting with classmates for monthly luncheons well after their 50th class reunion.
He served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict,
rising to the rank of Airman First Class, flying from Japan to bases throughout
Korea as a flight mechanic on C-119 aircraft. He returned to NH and took
classes at New Hampton School and received a degree in Civil Engineering in
1958 from New England College. He went to work for the State of New Hampshire
and after 33 years retired as Bridge Maintenance Engineer. In retirement he
stayed active doing things he enjoyed.
With his wife, Joye by his side, they spent retirement traveling to all 50 states, building and selling clocks at craft fairs and devoting his efforts to the National Society for the Preservation of Covered Bridges, the Friends of the Concord City Auditorium and attending various Masonic functions with his son. He was a 50 year member of Blazing Star Eureka Lodge #11, Horace Chase Lodge #72, and the Scottish Rite bodies of the Valley of Concord and had been an adviser for Rumford Chapter and NH DeMolay.
He leaves his wife of 56 years, Joye, son Karl (Tina) Olson of Concord, daughter Kendra (Henry) Tucker of Penacook and grandsons Ian and Kyle Tucker. He is predeceased by his son Kevin in 1978.
SERVICES: Calling hours will be held on Sunday, November 16, from 1:00 – 3:00 PM at the Bennett Funeral Home, 209 N. Main Street, in Concord. Funeral and Masonic services will be held on Monday, 1:00 PM in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, in W. Concord, NH.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Concord City Auditorium Lighting Fund, PO Box 652, Concord, NH 03302.
