When my children were little, summer was a time for playing on the beach, road trips, and family. Vacations were special...they allowed us to concentrate on one another, and forget most of the superfluous stuff that invades our lives. My son and daughter were and are a constant marvel to me. They make me laugh, cry, and think about what it means to be given the gift of parenthood.
I was fortunate to share this gift with a very special person. My wife fills in all the things I am missing, and together we had the pleasure of sharing some wonderful times with our children. I marvel at how time has come, and gone...our son and his lovely wife are expecting their first child. I have gone from being my father's son, to being a Dad, and soon... my upcoming role as a Grandfather. I hope, I do as good a job as my Grandpa...he was a very quiet, loving, and wonderful man. His lessons were taught by his actions, and by what he didn't say, as much as when he spoke. I miss him every day. I am fortunate to still have my Dad, and Mom, they mean the world to me, and I still have some lessons to learn.
The days of Summer are short lived...both in time, and metaphorically...but while they are here...lets live life on the beach, and make interesting marks in the sand!
