Today, February 14th is the Holiday of Love! This day we put aside our troubles, and worries...to wish the love of our lives, happiness and continued and renewed Love!
The origins of this special day, are steeped in myth, folk lore, and legend. In a nutshell, Saint Valentine is said to have performed secret wedding ceremonies for young lovers in Rome. The Emperor had forbid the young men of Rome to marry, as it interfered with their military service. Upon being caught, Caesar had Valentine executed on February 14th 270 AD.
Saint Valentine was trying to preserve Love, and trying to help these young couples, avoid risking their eternal souls to sin. It was a noble effort...one of such vast importance, that he gave his life to that pursuit. So goes the legend.
Today we celebrate the eternal gift, of finding someone ,who you have such trust, and affection, that you, with all your being, wish to spend your life exploring the world with that person. It is a grand and noble thing. while we live in world that does not always recognize "grand and noble things" I cannot help but feel a sense of awe for this man and his commitment to his beliefs and his Love for his faith!
In the spirit of Saint Valentine, I wish all our friends, a very Happy Valentine's Day! Here's hoping you find that special one...and you preserve that commitment for all the days of your life!
