Big Sports Car News from Subaru is Soon to Come!

A tantalizing teaser press release and accompanying Instagram post just came out of our automaker's headquarters in Camden, NJ recently, and needless to say, we're excited. Subaru Tecnica International, the motorsports division of the six-star emblem, is set to reveal a new iteration of the Subaru WRX sports sedan -- called STI S209. It'll be appearing at the 2019 North American International Auto Show on January 14th. We don't know much right now, but the auto industry authorities at Motor Trend have figured out a few things.

For one, what began as a special edition WRX STI mentioned at this year's Detroit auto show soon got that formal S209 name. What was telling was that its nomenclature demonstrated a succession, specifically of the WRX STI S208, a performance model that was available in Japan only. MT even got a first look, which revealed standard STI aesthetics and a rear wing evocative of WRX STI Type RA, but with a wide-body kit installed that put a fire under our accelerators.

Now, S208 production was limited, and S209 is more than likely to follow suit, but it leaves us with questions we can't help but want the answer to before the big NAIAS show. First, will WRX STI S209 be more powerful than the 2019 Subaru WRX STI, with its standard turbocharged 310-horsepower, 2.5-liter SUBARU BOXER engine? S208 was, after all, rated at 324 horsepower. And what about a lighter and more aerodynamic ride than Type RA already could deliver? Only time will tell.

Keep an eye out for updates soon. In the meantime, you needn't forgo getting a feel for what the sportster's all about. In fact, you can test drive a 2019 WRX STI Limited right here at 35 Tilton Road Route 140 in Tilton, NH. Give us a call or stop by Belknap Subaru to set up some time behind the wheel. We're just down the road from the Concord, NH area!
